Mobile App Development Cost in India
App development cost in India by app type, with a worked estimate, hourly rates, store fees, maintenance and the choices that raise or lower your quote.

App development cost in India typically ranges from about ₹2 lakh for a focused single-purpose app to ₹60 lakh or more for a marketplace with several apps, real-time features and a large admin panel. Most small and mid-sized business apps built cross-platform for iOS and Android land between ₹5 lakh and ₹20 lakh. The final number depends on features, the back end behind the app and how the work is priced, so this guide breaks each of those down.
Typical app development cost in India by type of app
These are typical market ranges in 2026 from Indian agencies and experienced freelancers. They vary widely with the team's seniority, the city and how much is custom. Use them to check whether a quote is in a sensible range.
| Type of app | What it usually includes | Typical range (excluding GST) |
|---|---|---|
| Simple app or MVP | Login, a few core screens, basic back end, one user type | ₹2 lakh to ₹6 lakh |
| Business app | Payments, bookings or orders, push notifications, admin panel | ₹6 lakh to ₹20 lakh |
| Complex app or marketplace | Two or three apps (customer, partner, admin), real-time tracking, chat, many roles | ₹20 lakh to ₹60 lakh+ |
Quotes far below these ranges usually leave something out: the admin panel, the back end, testing on real devices or store submission. Ask before you compare.
How app costs are actually calculated
Most Indian teams estimate an app in hours, then multiply by a rate. Experienced freelancers commonly charge somewhere around ₹800 to ₹2,500 an hour, and agencies a blended rate that is often higher because it includes design, testing and project management. Some teams quote a fixed price instead, but there is still an hours estimate underneath it.
So the useful thing is to understand what takes hours. An app is rarely just the app. Behind it there is usually:
- UI and UX design: user flows, wireframes and screen designs in Figma for both small and large phones.
- The app itself: every screen, form, list and state (loading, empty, error, offline).
- The back end: the server and database that store users, orders and content, often on Firebase or Node.js.
- The admin panel: a web dashboard for your staff to manage users, bookings, refunds and content.
- Integrations: Razorpay or UPI, Google Maps, SMS OTP, WhatsApp notifications, your CRM or ERP.
- Testing and release: checking on older Android phones and slow networks, then App Store and Play Store submission.
The admin panel and back end together often take as long as the app. Quotes that only price "the screens" tend to grow later.
A worked estimate: a booking app for a fitness studio
Take a fitness studio with two branches that wants members to book classes, buy memberships and get reminders. Built in Flutter for iOS and Android, with a Firebase or Node.js back end and a web admin panel, an hours estimate might look like this:
| Module | Hours |
|---|---|
| UX and UI design (about 25 screens) | 80 |
| Login with phone OTP and member profile | 40 |
| Class schedule and booking with waitlist | 80 |
| Memberships and Razorpay payments | 60 |
| Push notifications and reminders | 20 |
| Back end and APIs | 80 |
| Admin panel for staff | 100 |
| Testing on devices | 60 |
| Store listings and release | 16 |
| Project management and calls | 40 |
| Total | 576 |
At a blended rate of ₹1,200 an hour, that is ₹6,91,200 before GST. A registered agency adds 18% GST, bringing it to about ₹8.16 lakh.
Now look at where you could save. Dropping the waitlist and launching with one branch might remove 40 hours. Using a ready-made admin template instead of a custom one could save another 30. Adding trainer profiles, diet plans and in-app chat could easily add 150 hours. That is how one "fitness app" idea can be quoted at ₹5 lakh by one team and ₹15 lakh by another.
Choices that change the price most
A few decisions move the number more than anything else.
Cross-platform or native. Flutter or React Native gives you one codebase for both stores. Building separately in Swift and Kotlin roughly doubles much of the app work. Native is worth it for heavy Bluetooth, background location or camera features, but most business apps don't need it.
One user type or several. A customer app alone is one product. Add a delivery partner app and the work grows by much more than half, because each new role brings its own screens, permissions and tests.
Real-time features. Live tracking, chat and instant updates need extra back-end work and more testing.
Offline mode. Letting the app work without signal and sync later is one of the most underestimated features.
Costs after launch that people forget
The build is not the last bill. Plan for these:
- Apple's Developer Program costs $99 a year, and a Google Play developer account has a one-time $25 fee. Both should be in your company's name.
- Hosting, database and notification services, paid monthly to the provider, rising with users.
- SMS OTP and WhatsApp message charges, paid per message.
- Maintenance for new iOS and Android versions, security updates and bug fixes. A common rule of thumb is 15% to 25% of the build cost each year, more if you keep adding features.
Also check app store rules on payments. Apps that sell digital content or subscriptions used inside the app generally have to use Apple's and Google's billing, which takes a commission. Physical goods and real-world services, like a gym class, can use Razorpay or another gateway.
When you shouldn't build an app yet
If customers will use it once or twice a year, a fast mobile website will probably serve them better and cost far less. The same goes for testing a new idea: a website with WhatsApp ordering can prove demand before you spend lakhs. The cost logic for websites is different, and our breakdown of website development cost in India covers it.
An app makes sense when people will open it often, need notifications, or use phone features a website can't reach well.
FAQ
How long does it take to build an app in India?
A focused MVP typically takes four to eight weeks, and a full business app eight to sixteen weeks, depending on features and how quickly you approve designs.
Is Flutter cheaper than native development?
For most business apps, yes, because one codebase serves both iOS and Android. The saving shrinks if the app relies heavily on platform-specific features.
Should I pay for an app in one go?
No. Fixed-price app projects are usually paid in milestones tied to design approval, working builds and store launch. Make sure the source code and store accounts are in your name before the final payment.
